"i'm capable of infinite forgiveness"
...says the Prime Minister, quoted on the TV news in reference to Mr Tamihere.
Wow. Just like God. Amazing.
We’re just not worthy, are we.

Alan almost getting political :-)
Alan
13 April 2005, 07:50 #
Ha! Shock! Horror!
Almost. But as you’ve probably guessed, it’s the arrogance of the government I dislike most, rather than the politics…
Martha
13 April 2005, 19:01 #
Did you see when Tamihere was making a statement to the press after caucus, and he said something along the lines of “that’s all I’ve got to say”, and Helen in the background nodded and said “yes, I think so” – and it was so embarrassing and school-marm-ish and terrible.
I’m stuck. What is a lefty-liberal like myself supposed to do when everyone is f@#$%d?
Alan
13 April 2005, 19:12 #
My sentiments exactly.
Martha
13 April 2005, 20:17 #
The Wanda Halfpie Party perhaps?
With that for a name there couldn’t be huge expectations, and nobody would end up disappointed.
Alan
13 April 2005, 22:26 #
Yeah – the party of confused lefty-liberals: allergic to the right; irritated by the left; standing for nothing; and believing in something once upon a time.

Where do I sign up?
Alan
14 April 2005, 06:13 #
Consider yourself member #3.
Now we just need another 497 members and we can register for the election.
Sarah
14 April 2005, 07:46 #
I hope you’re not planning on competing with my Free Tampons party.
Alan
14 April 2005, 07:58 #
We actually don’t want to compete with anyone, just be nice to people.
In fact, we could build our platform out of free tampons. And then declaim to the world whilst standing on it.
Does that meet with your policy objectives?
Martha
14 April 2005, 09:25 #
We’ll basically give people anything they want as long as they vote for us – and it doesn’t hurt anyone (still a little lefty liberal eh?).
Like when Homer cleaned up Springfield.
Sarah
14 April 2005, 10:12 #
Well this is what I’ve got so far:
1. Hugs for everyone.
2. Mandatory “cup of tea and a lie-down” sessions in every work place.
3. Lolly trees in all public parks.
stephen
14 April 2005, 11:05 #
Yes, say what you like about our policy platform, it’s comfortable, absorbent, and gets changed regularly.
llew
14 April 2005, 12:11 #
Policy platform :) Let’s hope it doesnt’ rain.
And what’s in it for me?
Aside from a most appreciated hug & lie down from Sarah (can I have coffee & cigarette afterwards instead of tea?)
Alan
14 April 2005, 12:24 #
Just a thought on the imagery of this new party – after all, in the absence of a firm and comprehensive policy platform (ours is soft and absorbent by comparison) thought must be devoted to issues of style rather than substance.
It’s very trendy these days to borrow old Cold War era imagery. But I’m guessing a red flag is out of the question?
Martha
14 April 2005, 13:30 #
Not so much a flag as a tea cosy.
Sarah
14 April 2005, 14:00 #
Ooh! Bags me crocheting it!
llew
14 April 2005, 14:08 #
WHat about a hammer & sickle then? Might appeal to the working & agricultural classes.

14 April 2005, 14:34 #
The people’s tea is milky brown!
They lounge about in dressing gowns!
And ‘ere their tea grows skin with cold,
They sup on biscuits free from mould.
While traitors flinch
And cowards sneer,
We’ll keep the hot tea flowing here.
Alan
14 April 2005, 14:51 #
Brilliant.
We have the Party song. We have the party
flagtea cosy. We have a policy platform (as long as it doesn’t rain – although if it did, our policy platform would actually get bigger, which is no bad thing). All we need now, to effect the glorious revolution, is the votes. (I say votes because we’re all so nice that an armed struggle is completely out of the question, as well as being rather impolite.)
Do we need anything else?
llew
14 April 2005, 15:01 #
You should know surely? Do we need a press officer?
Wait… we need a LEADER!
Martha
14 April 2005, 15:26 #
Bags me (another one for Morphess – doesn’t the rest of the world say pax?).
Gushing Miss World speech
“I’ve always wanted to be a politician so I can look after the little children, and the old oldies, and the sick, and the rich”.
I think we need to appeal to the rich.
Martha
14 April 2005, 15:27 #
oh, I think it would be prudent for it to be me or Sarah and NZ seems to like the ladies.
llew
14 April 2005, 15:27 #
Only when we’re rich. Until then we pander to the peasants.
Martha
14 April 2005, 15:30 #
But the rich might let us into their corporate boxes and into the member’s stand at the races.
Martha
14 April 2005, 15:31 #
I’m selling out already. Time for a leadership challenge.
Jasmin
14 April 2005, 16:03 #
I’m signing up as a supporter, especially with handicrafts involved.
I suggest adding income sharing to the policy platform – instant support from all those contributing to the community without getting any tax benefits!
Mr Reasonable
14 April 2005, 21:34 #
Call me suspicious but where was Tamihere when Helen got on THAT plane. Mind you, I guess he’d have to wait in line and could borrow a screwdriver from The Donald.
Alan
14 April 2005, 22:24 #
Surely not! That nice Mr Donald?
MiramarMike
15 April 2005, 08:17 #
Is it too late to join the new party – I could bring a plate? And my son is particularly cute and willing to be your new poster boy.
Vote for Wanda Halfpie … or the kid gets it!
Sarah
15 April 2005, 09:10 #
Would it be terribly forward of me to propose a motion requesting we change our name to the “Pinko Pacifists”?
I think it’s time we reclaimed the term and we could totally, like, stand for peace and stuff. Also, back in the day I registered pinkopacifists.info which means we could have a wiki there and be the first solely virtual wiki-driven political party in the history of New Zealand!
Martha
15 April 2005, 15:12 #
How are we going to get any perks with a name like that?
Although part of my credo is to not give a shit – so pinko pacifists it is.
Alan
15 April 2005, 19:29 #
The Pinko Pacifist party – sounds good. And entirely wiki driven – sounds like the platform for us. After all, none of us have ever met despite living in the same town (excepting I work next desk over from Mr Reasonable; and used to work next desk over from Gryfon and Jaz, and had met Llew in the job I had 10 years ago; and went to University with DPF – well apart from that…).
Seriously though – is pinkopacifists.info still going? A wiki sounds like just the thing…
Sarah
15 April 2005, 20:52 #
Absolutely. I transfered the DNS over to textdrive this morning and put in a ticket to get a port allocation to run Instiki on so we should soon be good to go.
Alan
15 April 2005, 21:48 #
Fantastic. Linked in already.
llew
19 April 2005, 10:22 #
Is it just me or has Onebefore gone belly-up?
Alan
19 April 2005, 10:44 #
Yeah, since partway through the weekend.
Maybe Sarah’s working on an update to Tentacle, and testing in production again (tsk tsk!)
Sarah
19 April 2005, 11:46 #
No, I didn’t realise the domain was due to expire and it died at the weekend. Currently pondering whether to go to the effort of reviving it or not.
I’ll probably just wait for the white smoke, because if Ratzinger the antichrist is the next pope the end of the world is nigh and then blogging will be the least of my worries.
Alan
19 April 2005, 12:58 #
Surely it won’t take that much pondering (?). You do have a couple other domains you could use, I suppose.
As for Ratzinger – he’s bad, but as a non-catholic it’s probably not so bad for me. When the inquisition comes, apostates and heretics will be first against the wall. Whereas non-believers will just get a spell in the re-education gulag. I hope.
llew
21 April 2005, 12:01 #
Wil lthe re-education gulag sport a mediterranean climate?
I might be able to tolerate that. Hail Mary. Etc.
Martha
21 April 2005, 15:05 #
Hey I’m all for being part of an apathetic political party, but with the election looming shouldn’t we be plotting and scheming a bit more?
