This is half-pie.

in lieu of success

My heroic campaign to elevate myself in the Google search results for my name to Number 1 pathetic exercise in geek self-validation appears to have failed.

That other chap obstinately remains at Number 1, and shows no sign of flagging. Well done, good sport, and all that.

But, oh, the irony: I seem to have dropped a small Googlebomb on my foot. It seems that at the moment, searching for vanity surfing returns my site at the top of half a million results.

self-googlebombing

Well, I suppose I could claim by implication to be the world’s foremost vanity surfer… but maybe not. Vanity surfing is perhaps the internet equivalent of onanism: everyone does it, but you wouldn’t really want to be known as the biggest wanker in the world, would you.

Especially not if the index shifts me off the top spot.

I have one better than that: I am number one for “Persoblogity”, and there are only 3 sites all together on there!

You do realise that you’ve just added a fourth site?

How about going for the WITV persoblogity googlewhack ?

    (Too late.)

I am hoping to promote the word persoblogity until it becomes common usage, and then when historians research it in years to come back they will trace ite origins to me, and I will be imortalised forever (can one be imortalised for a time less than forever?)

I see I am the only site with WITV persoblogity. However that is going to change as soon as Google reindex you.

    :)

    What does persoblogity mean anyway?

Why don’t you go the whole hog & create a wikipedia entry about yourself?

Hey, that’s a great idea, Llew! And then next year I’ll be sure to win “Weblog of the Year” award!

Hmmm, more mild embarrassment: because my RSS feed seems to somehow refresh itself every so often, a link to this page is appearing as the topmost referrer link on the GoogleBomb posting I linked to.

As a result I’m getting a lot of hits on this page from people coming from the Google Blog.

This, although very nice (hi there everybody!), is not intentional.
